Two-Second Life Changers

Here are just some quick tips for a better 2012.

1. Rinse hair with a shot of cold water right before getting out of the shower. It will smooth the hair cuticles and make your mane shiny. – Francesca J. Fusco, M.D.
2. Orange peel contains more vitamin C than the fruit itself, so grate the skin and use it as a topping for salads and vegetables. – Susan Bowerman, M.S., R.D.

3. Set your water heater to 120 degrees instead of 140. The water will still be piping hot, and making the switch will save you 6-10% on your energy costs. – Renee Loux

4. Squeeze your pelvic-floor muscles and glutes while you stand to improve your posture. It helps lengthen your hip flexors, which can help correct certain spinal alignment problems. - Carol Espel, M.S.

5. Crack a smile, even if you’re not feelin’ it. It may be the easiest trick to feeling better. Research has shown that the physical act of putting on a happy face can help improve your overall mood and sense of well-being. - Diana L. Dell, M.D.

6. Head to the bathroom and rinse your mouth with mouthwash or give your teeth a quick brush. When you want to have dessert, changing your palate may help rein in your craving for a sweet snack. - Lisa Drayer, M.A., R.D.
